HUGHESVILLE — Dr. Khalid Mumin, the Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recently paid a visit to the Lycoming Career and Technology Center (LycoCTC) in a tour led by Executive Director Nate Minium.
The visit, which was one of several schools within Lycoming County, aimed to highlight the impactful programs offered at the center and underscore the importance of vocational education in preparing students for diverse career paths.
Accompanying Mumin were the superintendents from each of LycoCTC’s six member districts, including Dr. Craig Skaluba, superintendent of records; James Geffken of Benton Area School District; Dr. Mark Stamm of East Lycoming School District; Gerald McLaughlin of Loyalsock Township School District; Dan Taormina of Montoursville Area School District; andDr. Thor Edmiston of Warrior Run School District.
The highlight of the visit was Mumin’s interaction with students in the Health Sciences program. Under the guidance of instructors, students have the opportunity to showcase their skills by taking vital signs.
In addition to the Health Sciences program, Mumin and the visiting superintendents had the opportunity to explore other programs offered at LycoCTC, including the automotive, construction trades, and culinary programs.
Throughout the visit, Skaluba emphasized the critical importance of state funding dedicated to the expansion of Career and Technical Center programs.
LycoCTC serves approximately 310 students who attend seven different programs part of the day while remaining in their high school core academic classes and extracurricular activities.
